You have many reasons to consider a spiritual retreat. Retreats are wonderful opportunities to help you shake off the stuff of life and snuggle up close to God.
You are aware of this snuggling, right?

We need it far more frequently than we admit. We will wish for it, long for it, and still avoid it because it is a time to be held and intentionally give up our fears, stresses, and pain. We struggle with deep vulnerability even though we all know in our hearts that this is where we find the good stuff in our relationship with God. It is here that we can find our deepest, most authentic selves. Cozying up to God is an exercise in freedom no words can describe.
This can be particularly troubling for those in leadership. It is difficult for those who consistently pour out into others to allow themselves to be poured into without sending what we receive somewhere else. It is hard for a server to be served, let alone spending time to be still. The rhythm of ministry life can be brutal, painful, and exhausting. Emotional wear and tear are draining. It’s no wonder we have to work so hard to keep our personal relationships healthy. But this is the model of Jesus. Get away. Breathe. Bask in God's presence.
Snuggling up to God is very much like a child snuggling into the arms of a parent. We feel protected and safe. The sensation is of a calming warmth that penetrates our soul. We find rest for our body and spirit. We find unfathomable love. Welcome to Shalom.
